Susan's Profile ACOR CLL List Help Pages
Professor Susan J. Leclair is the Chancellor Professor of Medical Laboratory Science, Department of Medical Laboratory Science, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Dartmouth, Massachusetts 02747-2300.

She has been a long term member of the list acting as a consultant on matters pathological. Her many posts contain a wealth of information.

I live in Dartmouth, Massachusetts USA and work at the University
of Massachusetts Dartmouth, a place that is always getting confused
with Dartmouth, New Hampshire which also has a college (Dartmouth
College). The UMass connection is important since once I got here I
married a colleague in my department who became the Department
Chairperson! His area of expertise is Microbiology and Infectious
Disease. Since we are both work-a-holics, it won't surprise you to
know that some of my replies about infectious disease actually come
from him. A few years ago, he was the president of our national
professional organization and currently heads efforts in several
states to provide licensure for our profession. Yes, the vast
majority of laboratory tests can be performed by persons with a high
school degree and limited to no education or training.

I am the Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Laboratory Science, the
professional journal for the American Society for Clinical Laboratory
Science (ASCLS). Because of my involvement with these lists, I
conceived and still run the ASCLS Consumer Information Web Page
which has both static information and the ability to submit questions
concerning the interpretation of laboratory tests. Two years after we
began that effort, we took over the same function for Lab Tests On
Line. As of the last count, we average about 15 questions each day.
We have teams of clinical laboratory scientists who volunteer their
time to reply to these questions - usually within 24 hours.

We have one daughter, Kimberly, who has turned us into classic
grandparents with the birth of her daughter, Abigale and son,
Jonathan. We are not prejudiced, you see, the children are truly
beautiful and bright! Since Jim and I are "into" science, Kim
became a psychologist (Hmm, was she trying to tell us something) but
she slid back into science when she married David, a civil engineer.
